Rumour Has It: Is Dear Evan Hansen Heading To The Big Screen?

Author News DeskNews Desk, November 30th, 2018

Evan will be found... at the movies!

It seems that every week another Broadway musical is rumoured to be heading to the big screen. And at last, it's Dear Evan Hansen's turn! According to Deadline, the six-time Tony and Grammy award winner is set for a movie adaptation in the future, although no clear release or start date has been announced. However, Stephen Chobsky who directed last year's box-office hit Wonder has been in talks to direct with negotiations just beginning.

The titular character was the break-out role for Ben Platt who garnered the Best Actor in a Musical Tony at the 2017 awards. Since Platt departed the role earlier in the year rumours are flying around the theatre-sphere that the star may return to reprise his role in the film, although yet again that is not confirmed.

Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are set to produce the movie through Marc Platt productions with Benj Pasek (music), Justin Paul (lyrics) and Steven Levenson (book) expected to be executive producers on the project.

So as we wait for the rumours to be confirmed why not scratch your Dear Evan Hansen itch by seeing the original musical on tour?! The national tour Ben Levi Ross as Evan Hansen and Jessica Philips as Heidi Hansen.

What is Dear Evan Hansen about?

Dear Evan Hansen is a cautionary tale about how a lie can spread across a community before the truth even has its running shoes on. The Evan of the story is an anxiety-ridden high school misfit who is desperate for any form of recognition from his peers. So much so, that when his classmate commits suicide after suffering depression, a mysterious suicide note appears in the weeks after, seemingly addressed to Evan.

Now infamous by association with the dead teen, Evan finally gains the spotlight that he craves. However, with a traumatized local community, not to mention his family, starts begging Evan for more clues about Connor's state of mind, Evan's world starts to unravel with frightening speed. With Connor's parents and sister Zoe (who just happens to be Evan's crush) finding solace in the note, it isn't long before the powers of social media start to question its validity, and Evan's own motives.

Dear Evan Hansen is currently on its first national tour!
