Arizona Opera - The Barber of Seville

Arizona Opera - The Barber of Seville at Phoenix Symphony Hall

Why see Arizona Opera - The Barber of Seville?

A rotating cast for the Rossini favorite

Arizona Opera presents Gioachino Rossini's popular opera in a sparkling production helmed by Joshua Borths and conducted by maestro Francesco Milioto, who is currently making waves in the both orchestral and operatic circle. The story follows Figaro, the Barber of Seville and a self-made match-maker! His latest project is to ensure the beautiful Rosina is able to wed Count Almaviva, much to the dismay of her guardian Bartolo who wants to marry her himself.

With devious disguises, meddlesome mishaps, the fate of the heart of this young girl is one thrilling and hilarious ride! This delightful production sees the main roles each shared by two singers; Jared Bybee/Joo Won Kang as Figaro, Taylor Stayton/Anthony Ciaramitaro as Count Almavira and Stephanie Lauricella/Katrina Galka as Rosina.

I knew that I loved the music from listening to a CD but I didn't expect such a clever and amusing staging to go with it. I saw the Saturday night cast and they were superb! My only regret is that we had trouble hearing Bartolo's voice from the balcony seats when there was more than one person singing. That was a shame because from what i could hear he did a excellent job with some very challenging lyrics. I would have loved to hear them all. I went with my mother-in-law who knows little about western music and nothing about opera and she loved it also. Our seats were high but center stage. We had a great view of the stage and had as thorough an opera experience as anyone. We went to the pre-opera lecture which helped us appreciate the intricacies of the opera. ... Read more
